Factory Tours

SORRY!

Due to the current refurbishment underway, factory tours are suspended until Oct 2023.

If you have ever wanted to see how hats are made, then why not take a tour of our working hat factory in Luton.

Philip Wright’s family have run this business for more than 120 years. You will learn of the origins of the hat trade and understand Luton’s remarkable industrial and commercial history which made it the world centre of hat manufacture, to which the Wright family contributed an astonishing 4 million hats per year in the 1930s.

Understand how the hats are made using the machinery of 100 years ago.

You will see the full manufacturing process including the cutting of the material, the blocking of the shapes, the machining and the final trimming of the hats.

The tour will finish with a visit to the studio/showroom where you will be welcome to try on and even purchase the hats that you see. Philip will be happy to give you some hat wearing advice!

The factory at 29 Albion Road is only a 1 minute walk from Luton Mainline Railway Station and Station Car Park (NOT Luton Parkway Station).

Please be advised that this is a working factory and care must be taken as you walk around. You are welcome to take photos as you go. Wheelchair access is unfortunately not available for the full tour as there is some walking of stairs involved.

Maximum group size 20 people.

Tours must be booked and paid for in advance.
